In a house in a working-class area of Northern England, there lives a silent, introverted, and shy girl (played by Jane Horrocks). Ever since her beloved father passed away, she has become increasingly quiet, spending her days hiding in her room listening to the records left by her father. In contrast, her mother Mary (played by Brenda Blethyn) is a rude and superficial woman who disapproves of her daughter's silence, hence she gives her daughter the nickname 'Little Loudmouth.'
