From a young age, Ichigo Kurosaki (played by Sota Fukushi) was different from others. By chance, he encounters the Soul Reaper, Rukia Kuchiki (played by Hana Sugisaki). Rukia is one of the soul collectors who guide souls from the human world to the Soul Society, and they have been fighting these monsters, known as 'Hollows', to protect humans from being harmed. During a battle with an exceptionally powerful Hollow, Rukia is severely injured and is left with no choice but to temporarily transfer her Soul Reaper powers to Ichigo, allowing him to fight in her place. After some time of adapting to each other, they fight side by side and finally defeat the Hollow that killed Ichigo's mother. However, during this time, Rukia's brother, Byakuya Kuchiki (played by Takahiro Ishihara), forces her to withdraw her powers, disregarding Ichigo's safety. To protect Ichigo, Rukia delays until the battle with the Hollow ends and erases Ichigo's memories...
