 Synopsis
In the late 1920s, American female writer Soong Mei-ling (played by Elizabeth Gou Namei) was introduced to Red Army division commander Liu Xian (played by Li Hongwei) in Shanghai, who told her about the legendary experiences of General Zhu De (played by Liu Huaizheng). Later, Soong finally arrived in Yan'an, where she met the legendary Zhu De and witnessed the even more legendary Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army. In Yan'an, she experienced General Zhu De's great yet ordinary personal charm, and through several conversations with him, her thoughts were inspired, and her soul was elevated. With admiration, she decided to write a biography for Zhu De, so people around the world could learn about this fatherly Red Army leader and expressed her intention to join the Chinese Communist Party. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, Soong accompanied Zhu De's troops in battles across the north and south, objectively reporting on the Eighth Route Army's resistance to the world.
