Ted (played by Josh Radnor), Marshall (played by Jason Segel), and Barney (played by Neil Patrick Harris) are three friends, among whom only Marshall has a stable relationship— he is soon to marry kindergarten teacher Lily (played by Alyson Hannigan). Barney, on the other hand, is a typical playboy, and settling down is impossible for him.
