The chief eunuch of the Eastern Depot, Gu Jinfeng (played by Liu Xun), leads Captain Ouyang Quan (played by Jacky Cheung) and others south to investigate Lin Zhen Nan, a resigning officer of the Jinyiwei, while also enlisting the peripheral support of "the Leader of the Five Mountains", Zuo Lengchan (played by Yuanhua). Linghu Chong meets Ren Yingying (played by Zhang Min) and Lan Fenghuang (played by Yuen Qiu) from the Sun and Moon Holy Cult, who assist him due to Qu Yang's connection. Gu Jinfeng and Yue Buqun battle fiercely for the "Huainan Sutra", and unable to bear the consequences for his fellow disciples, Linghu Chong angrily unleashes the Dugu Nine Swords, coming to understand the true meaning of "The Smiling, Proud Wanderer".
