The wealthy young man Xuejin (played by Andy Lau) is self-important and has quickly fallen out of love after multiple relationships, often getting engaged only to break it off. This time, Xuejin has his sights set on a waitress from Shanghai named Wenqing (played by Qu Ying), who is graceful, poised, and gets along well with Xuejin and his family and friends. Thus, Xuejin plans to go on an ocean cruise with Wenqing and hold a grand engagement ceremony on the ship. However, what Xuejin doesn't know is that Wenqing's charm and knowledge are the result of her diligent preparation of conversation topics every night, and she is gradually growing weary of this lifestyle, feeling very tired. After boarding the ship, Wenqing encounters a waiter named Le Wen (played by Huang Lei); meanwhile, after a confrontational exchange with a girl named Hongye (played by Shietian Guang), Xuejin realizes he is madly in love with her.
