 Synopsis
"Tears of the Amazon" is a large-scale documentary produced by South Korea's MBC television station to celebrate its 49th anniversary. The production team risked their lives to film deep in the Amazon jungle, witnessing and experiencing the unfamiliar civilizations of the area and the increasingly severe damage to the rainforest ecosystem caused by human greed. The film cost 1.5 billion won and took 250 days to shoot, with popular actor Kim Nam-gil, known for his role in "Queen Seondeok," providing the narration. After its broadcast, the documentary received rave reviews and was hailed as the most successful television documentary in South Korea's history. The television version of "Tears of the Amazon" was broadcast in three episodes, and later edited into an 85-minute film version that was shown in theaters.
