Jay (played by Mark Rylance) is a down-and-out musician in London, struggling to make ends meet and facing a bleak future, living off his job as a waiter in a bar. For him, the most anticipated and exciting moment comes every Wednesday afternoon. On this day, a mysterious woman (played by Kerry Fox) comes to Jay's apartment, and they remain silent, immersed in raw passion. After it's over, the woman leaves decisively. However, Jay gradually becomes dissatisfied with these brief encounters and begins to secretly follow her to learn about her life, leading to a change in their relationship. This film won the Golden Bear, the Blue Angel Award, and the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the 2001 Berlin Film Festival.
