During the Qing Dynasty, after failing more than ten times to become the top scholar, Zhu Xiucai (played by Huang Baiming) made his father angry to death, drove his wife away, and ultimately committed suicide by hanging in a temple, leaving his soul tied to the hemp rope he used for his suicide. In the 1980s, high school girls Lin Xiaohua (played by Li Lijun), Lin Qingqing (played by Luo Mingzhu), and Yan Ruyu (played by Lin Shanshan) encountered a storm while traveling during summer vacation. To seek shelter from the rain, they broke into the temple where Zhu Xiucai had committed suicide. After the rain stopped, in a moment of panic, Lin Qingqing accidentally took the hemp rope, which contained Zhu Xiucai's spirit, into their room, resulting in screams. However, as they began to communicate more, they slowly became close friends with Zhu Xiucai, and through each other’s encouragement, they became clearer about the paths they wanted to take next—of course, there were many funny incidents along the way.
