Jake felt deeply uneasy about entering the third year of middle school. Charlie and Alan told him about their own nightmarish experiences in the third year, which only made things worse. Those stories had a significant negative impact on Jake, to the point that on the first day of school, he got off the school bus and ran home to hide. Eventually, Charlie and Alan realized that the stories they had told Jake were their own worries that they had passed on to him. They decided to teach Jake how to cope with his fears, but things did not go as they had planned.
