Veteran agent Ethan Hunt (played by Tom Cruise) also has moments of oversight. When he receives his latest mission, he falls into a trap set by the mysterious organization known as 'The Syndicate.' The Syndicate is a secret organization composed of former agents from around the world, which the CIA had previously dismissed as a myth. With the help of Syndicate member Isla Faust (played by Rebecca Ferguson), Ethan escapes and promptly reports the confirmed existence of The Syndicate to William Brandt (played by Jeremy Renner). However, Brandt is facing tough times as the IMF agency he oversees is accused by the CIA of incidents involving Russian nuclear warheads and is ordered to disband. Upon learning of The Syndicate's plot to assassinate the Austrian president, Ethan contacts his old partner Benji Dunn (played by Simon Pegg) to take action, and reunites with the enigmatic Isla. In the subsequent chain of events, the true nature of The Syndicate is gradually revealed, and their real intentions finally come to light...
