During the Great Depression in the 1930s, the American economy was in ruins. Housewife Cecilia (played by Mia Farrow) dealt with her dull job as a waitress during the day (which she would soon lose due to the economic collapse) and faced her uninspiring husband at night. A fervent movie fan, she visited the cinema daily to watch a film called 'Cairo Purple Violet,' so familiar with it that she could memorize the lines and expressions. Cecilia and Tom went to an amusement park, exchanging sweet nothings; although it started off romantically, they later realized it wouldn’t fill their stomachs. The actor Gil (also played by Jeff Daniels), who plays Tom in reality, also appeared, competing with Tom to win Cecilia’s heart. How will this absurd farce end?
