Quissard (played by Louis de Funès) moved to a new city with his daughter Nicole (played by Geneviève Grad) for work and life. Her friends urge Nicole to take them out on the yacht, and to keep her lie from being exposed, Nicole has to further deceive the yacht manager. The real owner of the yacht is the local mafia boss, who has just illegally obtained a valuable painting and hidden it in his beloved car. Unbeknownst to them, Nicole's friends mistakenly think that car belongs to Nicole's father and secretly take it for a joyride, complicating the situation. In the process of returning the car to its rightful owner, Quissard accidentally takes the painting, which leads him to be mistakenly identified as a painting thief.
