In 1944, as World War II initiated by the Nazis was drawing to a close, the Nazis mobilized Army Group A from the Balkans in an attempt to block the Soviet Red Army's southward advance in order to end the war with dignity. At the same time, the Nazis launched the "Laufeld Plan", aimed at plundering the rich oil resources of Sarajevo to supply their armored divisions. To implement the Laufeld Plan, the Nazis dispatched SS Colonel Fendt to Sarajevo, fully committed to annihilating the local partisan forces led by Velimir 'Bata' Zivojinovic. Fendt ordered a spy to impersonate Velimir, and under the guidance of traitors, the false Velimir formed a resistance committee with several genuine partisans, obtaining a list of partisan members and luring many resistance organization members into ambushes. The real Velimir, unable to reveal his identity due to the operational circumstances, ultimately exposed the spy through his outstanding strategy and the bravery of many partisans. To thwart the Laufeld Plan, the partisans, having eliminated the traitors, launched another attack.
