The movie "My Shanggao" is set against the backdrop of the Shanggao Campaign, depicting a touching story of ordinary Shanggao residents supporting the resistance against Japanese invaders during this period. The famous "Shanggao Campaign" is also known as the "Shanggao Battle" or the "Jinjiang Campaign", and is regarded as the most brilliant battle since the resistance against Japanese aggression began in the last century. In March 1941, Major General Shigeru Ohshima of the 34th Division stationed in Nanchang requested the 33rd Division, which was scheduled to be transferred to North China, to cooperate with them in clearing out the surrounding major Chinese military forces. However, due to severe lack of cooperation between the two divisions, the 34th Division found itself surrounded by four Chinese armies, which was the "Shanggao Campaign". Chinese troops reported that they had killed over 15,000 Japanese soldiers, including Colonel Hachimida, while the Japanese side claimed casualties of over a thousand.
