During the Anti-Japanese War, there was an active guerrilla group along the railway lines in the Lincheng and Zaozhuang areas of southern Shandong, led by Captain Liu Hong (Cao Huiqu) and Political Commissar Li Zheng (Feng Qi). They coordinated with the main forces to deliver heavy blows to the Japanese army, and were affectionately referred to as the "Flying Tigers" by the local people. The Japanese army tried every means to ambush the "Flying Tigers," eventually injuring Liu Hong. However, this allowed him to be cared for by the widow Fang Lin (Qin Yi), leading to a love story. After Liu Hong recovered, he worked with Li Zheng to command operations and inflicted a great defeat on the Japanese army. Enraged, the Japanese army attempted to provoke Liu Hong through indiscriminate killings. Liu Hong fell into their trap, preparing for a direct confrontation with the Japanese army at Lake Weishan, but was fortunately dissuaded in time by Li Zheng, which allowed the strength of the "Flying Tigers" to be preserved. After regrouping, the "Flying Tigers" completely eliminated the Japanese forces along the railway, but Fang Lin was captured while carrying out a reconnaissance mission.
