Adapted from the world-famous novella by Jeremias Gotthelf, starring Lilith Stangenberg, Nurit Hirschfeld, Anatole Taubman, and Marcus Signer. The story takes place in the 13th century in the Emmental region of Switzerland. The brave young midwife Christine makes a pact with the devil to save her village from the cruel terror of the Teutonic Knights. When Satan demands the reward he was promised but does not receive it, he punishes the village with a plague of spiders. Christine becomes the scapegoat and is hunted down. Only her sister Maria understands the suffering she endures to defy Satan's orders. Christine faces a decisive battle against the demonic forces that want to take away her greatest sacrifice, which she is willing to give: humanity.
