The plot unfolds along the journey of the USS Enterprise, the first Earth starship capable of reaching warp 5. This television series broke conventions in many ways; it is the only "Star Trek" series where the character assignments remained consistent throughout the whole show without any changes, it is also the first "Star Trek" series filmed in HDTV format instead of the traditional 4:3 format, it is the first to use computer-generated imagery throughout the entire series from start to finish, and it is the only "Star Trek" series with an opening theme song that includes lyrics.
