The story focuses on an elderly couple, Freddy (played by Ian McKellen) and Stuart (played by Derek Jacobi), who live in Covent Garden, London. After cohabiting for 48 years, Stuart still tells his mother that they are just roommates. When they met, Freddy was a budding actor and Stuart was a bar waiter.
