During the late Ming period, the Central Plains and the border of the Jin Kingdom were engulfed in flames of war, with the demonic sect led by Ji Wushuang (played by Ng Man-tat) wreaking havoc. The court and the martial arts world united to resist the enemy. The top disciple of Wudang, Zhuo Yihang (played by Leslie Cheung), was unruly since childhood but exceptionally talented, gaining the favor of the sect leader Ziyang Zhenren. Zhuo Yihang had many extraordinary adventures in his youth, meeting the then military officer Wu Sangui (played by Gao Xiong) and the mysterious Wolf Girl (played by Brigitte Lin). As an adult, Zhuo Yihang remained upright but did not change his wayward nature, unwilling to be constrained by the conventions of propriety.
