The story is told in reverse chronology. The business run by the Xia brothers is flourishing, but behind it lies a complicated past. Elder brother Xia Yunxiang is old and seriously ill, and on his deathbed, he does not forget to instruct his two sons to be united in heart and love each other. The elder son Zhongjue is honest and practical, devoted to filial piety, while the younger son Zhonghui is addicted to gambling and pleasure. Their cousin Jiang Jingxia has lived with the Xia family since childhood and has feelings for her second cousin Hui. She often advises Hui, but Hui suspects that their father favors his elder brother and often clashes with Jue. After Xiang's death, Jue collapses due to illness. Hui desires to monopolize the family fortune and forces the old servant Zhongbo to poison Jue's medicine. After Jue dies from the poison, Hui is haunted day and night by Jue's ghost, mistaking his newlywed wife Xia for Jue, whom he kills. Jue's ghost reappears wanting to strangle Hui... Hui wakes up, realizing it was just a nightmare. He quickly stops Jue from taking the poison and confesses his wrongdoings to his brother. The two brothers then join forces to manage their father's legacy and achieve great success.
