They were appreciated by Chen Baoming, the commander of the Independent Regiment and Tan Genhong, the battalion commander, and joined the Red Army.After hard training, Zhang Side joined the Salt-Sharp Knife Company and successfully sent out information.In the battle against the six-way siege, he witnessed the sacrifice of his comrades such as Commander Chen and felt that real Red Army soldiers must always care about the people.During his tenure as a communicator in the military headquarters, he completed the mission of sending intelligence many times, bravely robbing enemy ships and grabbing machine guns, providing support for the troops to cross the Jialing River.On the Long March, he saved people in the swamp.During the Battle of Mountain Castle, he was seriously injured and sent to recuperate.After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, he was sent to Chairman Mao as a guard for his outstanding performance, and was recognized and praised by Chairman Mao for his down-to-earth and willingness to work.During a charcoal burning mission, Zhang Side unfortunately died. Chairman Mao personally attended the memorial service and published "Serve the People"
