Wang Wei Ye (played by Daniel Wu), who has been a police officer for seventeen years, has an extremely troubled inner world due to his childhood and family issues, while upholding an absolute sense of justice. This leads to him being overly strict in his dealings with others, resulting in poor communication with his colleagues. One night, while stationed in the emergency room, Wei Ye gives blood to a critically injured patient in need of a rare blood type, only to find out that the patient is Han Jiang (played by Nick Cheung), the leader of a notorious bank robbery gang called the Ghost King Gang. As a result, Wei Ye faces criticism from his colleagues, and shortly after, Han Jiang escapes secretly and leads his gang to commit heinous crimes, resulting in the death of Wei Ye's colleague during a shootout. While people make their own choices, fate is always watching; the fierce and arrogant Han Jiang never anticipated that he would be ruthlessly consumed by his own desires. On the other hand, Wei Ye's mental state worsens, as he refuses to accept psychological counseling, obsessively tracking down Han Jiang's accomplices like a ghost. He witnesses betrayal and slaughter while watching the collapse of his strong faith inside.
