Synopsis

Young officer Xu Wenqiang (played by Leslie Cheung) is ambushed by Japanese spies while fleeing and falls into the sea. When he drifts to the Bund, he collapses due to exhaustion. Ding Li (played by Andy Lau), passing by, attempts to rescue him but is met with Xu's instinctive resistance, leading to a scuffle before they become friends. After saving the daughter of Shanghai tycoon Feng Jingyao (played by Wu Xingguo), Feng Chengcheng (played by Ning Jing) begins to develop feelings for Xu, while Xu, in turn, is enamored by her bravery, kindness, and intelligence. However, unbeknownst to him, Feng Chengcheng only sees him as a good friend and loves Ding Li's brother Xu Wenqiang, whom she met during a train journey. When Xu Wenqiang meets Feng Chengcheng again, passion gets the better of him, straining his friendship with Ding Li. As Xu and Feng discuss marriage, Xu discovers that Feng Jingyao is behind the attempts on his and his comrades’ lives, and his identity is revealed, leading to a tense atmosphere in the room. © Douban
