The short play centers around the story of Guo Lian, a pioneering painter of the late Qing Dynasty from Guangdong, who finds himself 150 years in the past in a village called 'Shixiang Garden' located in 'Henan', Guangzhou. The protagonist, Guo Lian, is a progressive artisan with a cheerful and tolerant personality, who enjoys teaching students in his own courtyard. In the bustling Guangzhou of the time, filled with foreign merchants, Guo Lian's students come from all walks of life—ranging from the elite sons of the Thirteen Hongs to young children, and even Western students who travel great distances seeking his guidance. Guo Lian accepts all students regardless of their backgrounds. Students from different cultural and class backgrounds gather at Shixiang Garden to learn painting, resulting in daily comedic situations. This play will unveil the fascinating and unique art stories from that period through four 'master-student' tales.
