Based on the real case of 1925 known as the 'Monkey Trial' (also referred to as the 'Scopes Trial'). An American high school biology teacher was prosecuted by the state government for teaching evolution in class. The case caused a sensation throughout the United States, drawing the support of the church's influence to the town, while professors, scientists, and others came to back the defense, leading to a lively atmosphere in the town fueled by continuous media coverage. Politician Matthew Harrison Brady (played by Frederick March) represented the prosecution, while the defense lawyer was the famous attorney Henry Drummond (played by Spencer Tracy). During the trial, the two clashed sharply, gradually evolving into a monumental debate about evolution versus creationism, science versus religion. The film's title is derived from Proverbs 11:29 in the Bible, 'He who troubles his own house will inherit the wind.'
