One evening after the liberation of Zagreb, Mathilde Ivankovic was brought to Lieutenant Betar's office by two soldiers due to her husband's frequent correspondence with the German engineer Dietrich Fiedler. In fact, Levan Ivankovic was a dedicated underground worker for national liberation, while Fiedler was merely a classmate of his from his studies at Leipzig University; there was no relationship between them that involved 'collaboration with the occupying forces.'
