This film is adapted from the bestselling novel by American author Dan Brown. Scientist Victoria Vitrac (played by Ayelet Zurer) from the European Nuclear Center, along with her father, collected antimatter during a high-speed particle collider experiment, only to discover that her father was murdered, his body branded with the Illuminati symbol on his chest. The highly explosive antimatter has been stolen and appears to threaten the safety of the Vatican and all of Rome, as the election of a new pope is underway. Meanwhile, four cardinal candidates mysteriously disappear. Under the advice of the papal assistant (played by Ewan McGregor), Harvard University symbologist Professor Robert Langdon and Victoria are invited to the Vatican to assist the Roman police in their search.
