The play is adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name by Laura Lippman.On Thanksgiving in 1966, the disappearance of a teenage girl swept through Baltimore, and the lives of two women collided fatally.Maddie Schwartz (Natalie Portman) is a Jewish housewife who tries to get rid of her secret past and become an investigative journalist again; Cleo Johnson (Moses Ingram) is a mother who struggles to support her family at the bottom of Baltimore's black politics while working hard to support her family.At first, their very different lives seemed parallel and uninterrupted, but when Maddie began to focus on Cleo's puzzling death, a crack opened, leaving everyone around them at risk.
