Li Zhentai (played by Zhang Dongjian) is a cobbler living in Seoul, and his family's livelihood depends on the income from repairing shoes. Although they are not materially wealthy, it is a warm and complete family. His wife, Li Yingxun (played by Lee Eun-joo), and mother run a noodle shop, while also caring for their younger siblings. His younger brother, Li Zhenxi (played by Won Bin), is the hope of the family, currently in high school, dreaming of entering university, which is also a hope entrusted by his brother Zhentai.However, with the sudden outbreak of the Korean War in 1950, their peaceful life was soon disrupted. As the war spread to Seoul, Zhentai decided to take his family to Daegu to escape the conflict. However, on the way, they were forcibly conscripted into the army and boarded a train headed for the front line at the Nakdong River. From then on, the family was torn apart. On the battlefield, Zhentai was left with one wish: to protect his younger brother with his life at all costs. Upon hearing that by earning a national medal, he could exempt his brother from service, he frantically charged to the forefront of battle. However, the cruel battlefield and fate played tricks on them, and their life trajectories underwent a devastating change.
