In the year 1806, England was besieged on all sides in its long struggle against Napoleon, and practical wizards had long since vanished from the scene. However, scholars who studied the glorious past discovered that there was still one practical wizard alive—Mr. Norrell. This man was reclusive, yet showed a bit of skill that amazed the entire nation. After moving to London, he brought a beautiful woman back to life and summoned a fleet of phantoms to intimidate the sorcerers. He consistently looked ahead and made a big fuss about everything, but he was soon challenged by the young and talented Jonathan Strange, who had just started making a name for himself. This young man was in the prime of his life, handsome and spirited, and was entirely the opposite of Norrell. From then on, the struggle between these two great wizards escalated with constant peril and drama, rivaling even the wars between England and France. Each had their own obsessions and secretly dabbled in dark magic, unaware that it would only lead to their own entrapment, with a dangerous future ahead.
