This is an era where aliens and humans coexist. Under the oppression and rule of alien immigrants, the warrior spirit that has been passed down for centuries has faded. However, in the face of this decline, there are still a group of people who quietly uphold their principles and justice. The young man Zenbutsu Shinpachi (played by Masaki Suda), from a family that has fallen on hard times, meets the owner of a miscellaneous shop, Sakata Gintoki (played by Shun Oguri), and the celestial girl Kagura (played by Kanna Hashimoto) by chance. The three become friends. Their mutual friend Katsura Kotarou (played by Masaki Okada) mysteriously disappears, and through investigation, a man named Okada Nakasou (played by Hirofumi Araki) and a demon sword called 'Hōyō' come to light. Okada Nakasou was once under the command of the anti-foreign activist Takasugi Shinsuke (played by Tsuyoshi Domoto), who despises this fallen world and has always attempted to destroy it. As the power of Hōyō grows stronger, the entire city of Edo is shrouded in increasingly thick clouds.
