Five young people, Ash (played by Bruce Campbell), Sheryl (played by Ellen Sandweiss), and others, set out to go on a road trip together. They booked a house located deep in the mountains as their wilderness base. After hiking through hills and valleys, they finally found the little cabin. In the evening, they discovered a strange and frightening book left by the owner of the house, along with an old tape recorder. In the recorded message, the owner mentioned that he was researching ancient funeral rites and some incantations, and that strange book was called "The Book of the Dead." According to the book, death is merely a state of sleep, and one does not truly die; with the incantations, one can come back to life. Then, a chilling incantation played from the tape recorder. Subsequently, terrifying events began to unfold.
