By chance, Helen (played by Helena Bonham Carter) and Margaret (played by Emma Thompson) met the Wilkes family. At Howard's End, owned by the Wilkes family, Margaret was closest to Mrs. Wilkes (played by Vanessa Redgrave), while Helen left the Wilkes family after a brief romance with Paul (played by Joseph Bennett).
