In the countryside, the coachman Yi Sanlang (played by Takahiro Tamura) has a hardworking and kind wife named A Shi (played by Kazuko Yoshiyuki). While Yi Sanlang is away from home, the idle scoundrel of the village, Feng Ci (played by Tatsuya Fuji), frequently courts her, but she remains unaffected. However, she eventually cannot resist the temptation of Feng Ci's youth and strong physique. To be together, they end up strangling Yi Sanlang one stormy night and throw his body into a dry well. Out of guilt, Feng Ci dumps fallen leaves into the well every day. Three years later, rumors spread in the village about Yi Sanlang's ghost appearing, and A Shi begins to be haunted by his spirit, slowly unable to bear the psychological pressure. To dispel the villagers' suspicions, Feng Ci commits murder again. When Feng Ci and A Shi take the risk of entering the dry well to relocate Yi Sanlang's bones, they unexpectedly encounter his ghost.
