The series, based on the third season of the same name Wondery podcast, focuses on Italian thoracic surgeon and former regenerative medicine researcher Paul Machiarini, known for his research on fraud and manipulation.
Machiarini, considered a pioneer in the use of implanted patients' own stem cells as biological and synthetic scaffolds for tracheal grafts, was accused of immoralizingly performing experimental surgery, resulting in the death of seven of the eight patients undergoing his synthetic tracheal transplant.
Season 1 operator Patrick Markmanus serves as executive producer, and screenwriter Ashley Michelle Hoban takes over the operation. The plot is described as: Machiarini is a charming surgeon known for his innovative surgery, earning him the nickname "Miracle Man".When investigative journalist Benita Alexander approached him for writing a report, the line between personal life and work began to blur, changing her life forever.When she learns how Paul will protect his secret, a group of doctors on the other side of the world makes a shocking discovery, which brings everything about the "Miracle Man" to question.
