On a serene Australian beach, the hungover lifeguard Josh (played by Xavier Samuel) asks his girlfriend Tina (played by Sharni Vinson) to have her brother Rolly check the shark nets in the sea. Unfortunately, Rolly is attacked by a shark, leading to his death, which leaves a significant psychological impact on both Josh and Tina. Josh feels guilty towards his girlfriend and decides to give up his job as a lifeguard to work as a shelf-stacker in a supermarket. Meanwhile, Tina travels to China to study dance. A year later, when Tina returns to Australia, she unexpectedly runs into Josh at the supermarket. At the same time, chaos ensues in the supermarket with thefts and robberies happening. Just when this volatile incident escalates, a powerful earthquake strikes, followed by a massive tsunami that turns the supermarket into an island, leading to a fierce battle between humans and sharks.
