 Synopsis
This was Chen Baozhu's last film before bidding farewell to the film industry. In the late 1960s, Chu Yuan had also directed a series of fashionable chivalrous thief films for Baozhu, and this film follows that pattern, but the setting has shifted to the early Republic of China, with the lead role changing from Baozhu to Yue Hua, like a variation of the character from "The Great Drunken Hero." In front of everyone, he appears as a foolish and stuttering detective in the police station, but in reality, he is the elusive and wealthy-robbing bandit known as "Lizard." Baozhu plays his confidante and partner. The film is filled with thrilling and lively banquet heists, comedic blunders of the bumbling detective, and a final life-and-death showdown between the chivalrous thief and the villainous master Luo Lie. This is a digitally restored version.
