Two thousand years ago, the sorcerer 'The Extreme Evil' Nhagruul, who spent his life indulging in the corruption of living beings and spreading despair, fell into panic as his end approached. Filled with hatred for the living, Nhagruul sold his soul to a demon lord in the bottomless abyss in a bid to save his wicked soul. In a painful ritual, Nhagruul's skin was flayed and turned into the pages of a book; his bones became the cover of the book; and his tainted, corrupted blood was used as ink to write this book of evil. All who came into contact with this book were sucked into madness by its power or were corrupted by its nefarious knowledge, falling deep into evil. Nhagruul's followers spread their master's dark nightmares, bringing pain and bloodshed with their footsteps. The foul creatures emerged from the unclean pits and ancient tombs, wreaking havoc in a frenzy. The city-states and kingdoms of Karkoth were devoured by the evil forces that spread like a plague, until a band of warriors rose from the ashes—the Sunrise Knights vowed to bring hope back to all corners. The God of Light, Pelor, was moved by their pure ambition and bestowed a talisman that could guide their divine power upon the knights. Blessed by divine power, the Sunrise Knights shattered the shadows that enveloped the land. However, not everyone was moved by their glory. Nhagruul's followers split the Book of Corruption and bribed three individuals, blinded by greed, to hide the fragments, waiting for the day they could reunite. Later, the ink of the book was discovered and destroyed. However, the pages and the cover were never found. The kingdoms enjoyed centuries of peace, while the original knights became enraptured in their own glory.
