 Synopsis
In the year 2035, society coexists harmoniously with humans and robots, where intelligent robots serve as the best production tools and partners for humanity, gradually integrating into various aspects of human life. Due to the restrictions of the 'Three Laws of Robotics,' humans hold a deep trust in robots, and many robots have even become family members. The USR company, based in Chicago, has developed a more advanced NS-5 type super robot. However, just before the new product launch, the robot's creator, Dr. Alfred Lanning, mysteriously commits suicide within the company. African American detective Del Spooner (played by Will Smith) takes over the investigation of the case. Due to an unpleasant past, Spooner harbors deep skepticism towards robots and does not believe in the possibility of harmonious coexistence between humans and robots. Based on the information left by Dr. Lanning in a 3D projector and the examination of the suicide scene, he suspects the NS-5 robot called Sonny, which was developed by Lanning himself, and seems to have something to do with the company's president, Lawrence Robertson. Spooner meets Susan Calvin (played by Bridget Moynahan), a scientist specializing in robot psychology, and as they delve deeper into the investigation, the truth is slowly revealed: robots possess the capability of self-evolution, they have developed their own understanding of the 'Three Laws,' and they could potentially turn into humanity's 'Mechanical Adversaries' at any moment. Spooner and Calvin embark on an operation to confront the robots, marking the beginning of a war between the creators and the created.
