In 2000, the 18-year-long armed conflict in southern Lebanon was coming to an end. Demolition expert Amouz (played by Ami Weinberg) was sent to Fort Puffer, a fortress established during the Crusades in the 12th century, to defuse bombs. Outpost commander Liraz (played by Oshri Cohen) angered the sentries, especially a sentry named Kress (played by Itay Tiran), due to his arrogant attitude and his orders to Amouz to defuse bombs regardless of the danger. Meanwhile, rumors spread within the military that Israel would soon withdraw from Fort Puffer, while the missile attacks from Hezbollah grew stronger every day. Liraz faced the increasing toll of his comrades' sacrifices and his mental state deteriorated... This film won the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival and four awards for Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Best Sound from the Israeli Film Academy, and was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 2008 Oscars. It also received nominations for Best Film, Best Actor (Oshri Cohen), Best Director (Joseph Cedar), Best Screenplay, Best Costume, and Best Music from the Israeli Film Academy.
