The story this season still revolves around Ted and the other four characters. The time has moved to 2009, and after several years of dating, Matthew (played by Jason Segel) and Lily (played by Alyson Hannigan) have gotten married and moved into a new apartment, living a blissfully sweet life. Their best friend Ted (played by Josh Radnor), after facing repeated failures in the previous season, decides to give up being an architect and switch to becoming a university professor, while he is also trying hard to find his true love. On the other hand, their mutual friends Barney (played by Neil Patrick Harris) and Robin (played by Cobie Smulders), after a year of emotional struggles and conflicts, have finally gotten together.
