In the Wang family's grand mansion, there are many wives and concubines, indicating complex interpersonal relationships within the household. The third young master, Wang Jianzhi (played by Hou Tianlai), returns to his hometown from Peking University, only to discover that his wife has been committing adultery with the long-term worker Wang Changshuo, resulting in the birth of an illegitimate daughter named Xingli. Although Wang Jianzhi becomes aware of this situation, he tacitly accepts the relationship between his wife and the worker, enduring this humiliation. Meanwhile, the 'mother,' who comes from a maid background, actively participates in the anti-Japanese struggle in the village and becomes a revolutionary mother. Through her transformation, this woman moves from the confines of her household to actively engaging in social movements, acquiring the skills and determination to confront the enemy. Juanzi (played by Wang Pei) falls in love with the county party secretary Jiang Yongquan (played by Gu Zhixin), but faces competition from the head of the Women's Relief Association, Zhao Xingmei. Furthermore, the heroic sacrifice of the munitions factory director turns out to be Juanzi's biological brother, while Zhao Xingmei is actually Juanzi's sister-in-law.
