Having a past that is hard to look back on, Ando Mitsuo (played by Koichi Sato) receives a call from his colleague Miyashita (played by Tsurumi Shingo) early in the morning, learning that his medical school friend Takayama Ryuuji (played by Hiroyuki Sanada) has died unexpectedly. Ando performs an autopsy on Takayama's body, ruling out suicide and homicide, and discovers that his friend died of a myocardial infarction. Under police arrangements, he meets Takayama's lover Takano Mai (played by Miki Nakatani), only to hear that his friend died due to a videotape. Naturally, Ando does not believe in such vague speculation, but to his surprise, a few days later, Takayama's ex-wife Asakawa Reiko (played by Nanako Matsushima) and their young son also die in a car accident, leading Ando to suspect the broken video recorder found in the wreckage. Not long after, Asakawa's boss Yoshino (played by Yutaka Matsushige) visits and reveals the entire truth about Sadako and the cursed videotape. Thus, Ando's fate begins to change... This film is adapted from the namesake original work by Koji Suzuki.
