Charulata (played by Madhabi Mukherjee) is married, but what she did not anticipate was that her marriage life would not be filled with happiness and joy. Charulata's husband is an intellectual; although well-read, he chooses to devote all his energy to researching political publications. In his mind, a wife only needs to manage household duties and does not require his companionship or understanding. As time goes by, the relationship between Charulata and her husband becomes increasingly cold, and she lives her days in solitude, feeling very distressed inside. At this critical moment, her husband's cousin comes into Charulata's life; he is an enthusiastic poet who is full of dreams about life. Under his influence, Charulata gradually steps out of her depression and learns how to pursue the dreams in her heart.
