The Lover (Tony Leung Chiu-Wai)

In 1929, Vietnam was a French colony, and a 15-year-old French girl (played by Jan Ma Qi) was attending a girls' boarding school in Saigon. Every holiday she would return home, where her mother ran a very small school with little income. She had two older brothers; the eldest, Bill, was addicted to drugs and overbearing, while the second brother, Paul, was naturally timid and often bullied by Bill. One day, as usual, the girl bid farewell to her mother and boarded a ferry back to school, where she met a Chinese wealthy young man (played by Tony Leung), who was the only son of a riche overseas Chinese businessman, sitting in a black luxury car. The Chinese man was attracted to the white girl and approached her, and they quickly connected. At the boarding school, the girl learned that some of her classmates engaged in prostitution, and she wanted to find a rich man to try her luck, so she proactively started chatting with men. After getting off the ferry, the two explored Saigon together and dined at a Chinese restaurant, after which the man drove her back to school. The next day, as soon as school ended, the black car was waiting at the school gate. They soon fell in love. The man took the girl to his mansion, a place often used by wealthy Chinese to keep their mistresses. They would meet there, bathe, and play. Sometimes they wouldn't return to school at night, prompting the school to notify her mother, however...
