Wuthering Heights

Gentleman Mr. Earnshaw went out and brought back a gypsy child to Wuthering Heights, naming him Heathcliff (played by Tom Hardy). His son Hindley (played by Burn Gorman) is jealous of his father's favoritism towards Heathcliff and torments and mocks him incessantly. Mr. Earnshaw had no choice but to send his son Hindley, who constantly targets his adopted brother, to a boarding school. His daughter Catherine (played by Charlotte Riley) has been childhood friends with Heathcliff, and the two gradually develop deep feelings for each other. After Mr. Earnshaw passed away, Hindley returned to Wuthering Heights to inherit his father's estate, degrading Heathcliff to the status of a servant and seeking vengeance against him. Meanwhile, Catherine, faced with circumstances beyond her control, married Edgar (played by Andrew Lincoln) from Thrushcross Grange. Despairing, Heathcliff chose to leave and after three years returned with great wealth, beginning his crazed revenge. He schemed to take Wuthering Heights, indirectly causing Hindley's death through drunkenness, and eloped with Edgar's sister Isabella, bringing shame to Edgar. All of this led to Catherine, who still loved him deeply, suffering immensely and ultimately dying in childbirth. The mentally deranged Heathcliff continued this cycle of revenge against the next generation until he left the world carrying Catherine's lifeless body. The film is adapted from the representative work of British author Emily Brontë titled 'Wuthering Heights'.
