The wealthy scion Zhou Tong (played by Sam Hui) is skilled in martial arts and bullies others everywhere, while his sister Zhou Ji (played by Ng Man-tat) is also quite unruly. Their mother, Tai Jun (played by Kok Siu-wah), has always wished for them to settle down and start families. However, on Zhou Ji's wedding night, her husband Lin Jia Sheng (played by Anthony Wong) cannot bear her and runs away. Since then, Tai Jun has lost her appetite, so Zhou Tong organizes a birthday feast to cheer her up, hoping to invite the famous magician Ga Bai Fei (played by Leslie Cheung) for entertainment. Meanwhile, Bai Xue Xian (played by Gong Li) disguises herself to visit the flower market and falls in love with Ga Bai Fei at first sight. Bai Fu (played by Ng Man-tat), upon hearing about this, mistakenly believes his daughter is pregnant and seeks out Ga Bai Fei to propose, but he confuses Zhou Tong for Ga Bai Fei. After Zhou Tong meets Bai Xue Xian, he vows to win her heart. The fierce mother (played by Siu-Ming Ho) learns about the plight of Ga Bai Fei and Xue Xian and pretends to be a bride to teach Zhou Tong a lesson. Zhou Ji's husband Lin Jia Sheng becomes a top scholar, and Zhou Ji wants to reconcile with him, but he rejects her.
