Synopsis

Two murders occurred simultaneously in the Shanghai International Settlement and the French Concession, with two seemingly unrelated victims apparently killed by the same murderer. Due to the inconvenience of investigating the murder in the International Settlement, Inspector Zhong Lang (played by Lv Liangwei) decided to start his inquiry with the victim from the French Concession — retired police chief Old Xue, after discussing with crime expert Kang Huasheng (played by Xu Liang), forensic expert Hong Xiaoya (played by Ma Cancan), and Yu Shengnan (played by Li Ruosi). From the widow, they learned that Old Xue had been investigating an East Asia Academy that had been destroyed many years ago. The academy was a charitable institution founded by the Japanese in 1900 aimed at adopting orphans, but secretly relocated back to Japan during the September 18 Incident, and this clue triggered Zhong Lang's childhood memories. This highly unusual homicide case unveiled a malicious conspiracy of an ambitious empire...
