In the depths of the ocean, a Russian submarine is on a routine mission when an unexpected incident causes the submarine to explode, leaving no crew member alive. This mysterious accident hides a big secret capable of shaking the world. Shortly after, agent Ethan Hunt (played by Tom Cruise) receives a mission to find two uniquely shaped keys. When combined, these keys can control an ever-evolving artificial intelligence with independent thinking abilities, enabling politicians to realize their ambitions for world domination. Unwilling to be used by politicians, Ethan teams up with his good buddies Luther Stickell (played by Ving Rhames), Benji Dunn (played by Simon Pegg), and Ilsa Faust (played by Rebecca Ferguson) to find and destroy the keys, which also means they will go against the entire world. During the operation, the seductive thief Grace (played by Hayley Atwell) unintentionally gets involved, complicating this dangerous game even further...
